M3: Machine – mass – Mold

Massenprodukt und Unikat bilden zwei Pole im Spannungsfeld von Design, Kunst und Handwerk. Was scheidet das „perfekte“ Duplikat vom „unperfekten“ Unikat? Ein Schaffensprozess, an dessen Grenzen ich forsche.

„M3“ ist ein solches Prozessprojekt, in dem ich beim Experimentieren mit einer Druckgussmaschine einen neuen Formentyp geschaffen habe: die drehbare Gipsform. In beiden Teilen der Form ist ein Muster eingefräst – die Drehung der Hälften erzeugen unendliche Variationen des Ursprungsmusters. Die Form schafft industriell ein Unikat.

„M3“ is a process project, in which I experiment with a self-built pressure-casting machine to create a new type of mold: the rotatable plaster mold. A pattern is cut into both parts of the form – the rotation of the halves creates infinite variations of the original pattern. The form spawns an – oxymoronically – industrial unicum.
